Deity Outfits and Backdrops
Kartik Month 2010? 2011? Iskcon Brampton
Background: Made from a large sheet of foam core, cut using an exacto knife to create the arches. The fabric in the background can be changed according to the outfit worn. After cutting, primed the board and then painted using acrylic.
Butter Pots: The butter pots were hand painted and they are used every year during kartik. We bought black cauldron's from the $ dollar store during Halloween (they came 5 in a pack). We painted the pots a clay colour first, then added designs and motifs. We used gems and stick on stones to add extra decoration. The butter was made from cotton balls dipped in mustard coloured paint with gold sparkles. We also found rope from the $ dollar store and used it to hang the pots. They are super light weight.
Janmasthami 2012 at ISKCON Brampton
This is one of my favourite outfits because of the colour combination and rich material used. It's very antique looking, muted colours of coral and taupe and the black grounds everything. The design is not traditional ...meaning there's no flowers or birds, but something different and interesting. The fabric was stretched on a frame and painted with acrylic.
Radhastami 2012 at ISKCON Brampton
The deity outfits were made using several different fabrics. Using colours from the outfit the background was designed. The backdrop was then taken to the temple the night before Radhastami where the devotees hot glued fresh poms/mums onto it. They also made the garlands that decorated the inside and outside of the altar. The centre piece was made using a paper plate were fresh flowers were also hot glued onto that. It was very light and hung above Sri Sri Radha Damodara.
